Tsavodite or Tsavolite Garnet

A grossularite form of garnet, this gemstone was found by the Tsavo National Park in northeastern Tanzania (hence the name.) It became famous through the efforts by Tiffany & Co in 1974 when they began promoting the stone for it's beautiful color transparency. This stone is also found in mines in Brazil, Sri Lanka, India, and parts of Brazil. Stones over five carats are very rare, making any stone cut over two carats very valuable. This stone is striking on pink, brown, or peachy complexions, and symbolizes youth and vitality.
